Color & Color is an artist-curated publication guided by the duality of two thematic colors per issue.
Color&Color was conceived as a mobile venue in which to present new work of artists we respect and with whom we want to work. We hope that with each issue the publication can connect artists with new audiences and expanded dialogue. Not wanting to rely solely on traditional venues like galleries and museums, Color&Color presents artwork via the serial print medium. This opens up access to new spatial-temporal configurations for the work. The publication is available both in printed and digital format. Proceeds from sales go directly to future issues of Color&Color.
Color&Color #0 (Orange & Blue) The premier issue, C&C#0, features Orange & Blue with work by the following artists: Deric Carner, Amanda Curreri, Renée Gertler, Jason Hanasik, Sam Lopes, Celia Manley, Jeremy Chase Sanders, Erik Scollon, Skye Thorstenson, and Christine Wong Yap. The book seems to have exceeded everyone's expectations and gave us a chance to get to know one another better. C&C#0 was launched at PPOW Gallery in NYC in October 2009. It's currently available as print-on-demand or contact us directly as we have a few copies left. FALL 2009.
Color&Color #1 (Yellow & Purple) For the second issue, we chose Yellow and Purple as sort of instigatory colors. Throughout production we have also found that we often, independently, seem to enjoy wearing these colors. For the book though, these particular colors posed more of a challenge than expected. Each artist in this issue offers a nuanced approach to integrating the colors into their work: one takes personal offense at yellow, another multiplies their pyschedellic joint effects to holy proportions, and another identifies with the physical and psychic properties of yellow and purple in relation to the recent passing of a friend. C&C#1 features pages by the following artists: Luke Butler, Audrey Hynes, Lindsay Jesse, Cybele Lyle, Ali Naschke-Messing, Nyeema Morgan, Paul Morgan, and Marci Washington. C&C#1 is anticipated in print in February 2010.
Color&Color #2 (Black & White) C&C#2 will focus on BLACK & WHITE and will be curated specifically by the artists in the first two issues. Based roughly on a Ponzi scheme, each artist will be asked to consider the Black and White color theme and invite two new contributors that they think will make interesting contributions to the book. Each invited artist will contribute up to two pages. C&C#2 hence promises to be both heftier in page count and, by way of its invite-structure, completely unpredictable. We're looking forward to this one being produced during the upcoming months. WINTER 2010.
Color&Color #3 (White & Blue) C&C#3 will be our first non-paper issue. This Spring semester, Erik has been invited to be Artist in Residence at Albion College's Fine Art Department. He has come up with the idea to do an issue completely printed by hand on ceramic vessels using his signature blue and white glazes. Due to its unique and limited printing, we'll announce pre-printing purchase options as we near production. SPRING 2010.
Color&Color is co-curated and co-produced by Amanda Curreri and Erik Scollon.
We are always looking for better, best, amazing ways to print C&C, so we welcome any suggestions, collaborations, ideas.
