LIVE & DIRECT
was a group exhibition I curated featuring the work of Erin Allen, John
Chiara, Renée Gertler, Scott Hewicker, Donna Huanca, Bessma Khalaf,
Travis Meinolf, Nyeema Morgan, and Erik Scollon.

Each artist was
asked to contribute an Artwork and (an) Action to be presented for one
month, Live & Direct. For some, the artwork and action became
intertwined, others chose to keep them mutually exclusive. The gallery
was full to capacity, and then some. Events were scheduled throughout
the month in satellite locations and at the gallery.

There was a
Goon Squad boutique, a shameless shrine, and a pile of cast assholes.
One artist offered an open invite to join him in crafting one of his
large scale photographs. Another performed a song he wrote for a
painting he made, both for the occasion.

As a test of what can be expected from a gallery experience, LIVE & DIRECT
challenged the artists, the visitors, and the gallery space to up the
ante. What do we desire from art exhibitions? What do we need? From each
other, and from ourselves? LIVE & DIRECT
presented and promoted the work of the artists involved but also
implored all involved to consider an expanded relationship of artwork
